“For there is hope for a
tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots
will not cease. Though its root may grow old in the earth, and its stump may
die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth
branches like a plant.”
-Job 14:7-9
As you may or may not have noticed, I haven’t posted in two
weeks or so. I’ve been adjusting. I’ve been adjusting to being away from home,
different time zones and the American lifestyle. By the way, I’m officially a
college student! I guess this means that starting now, my posts will be based
on my experiences as an American college student. This is my first post since I
left home.
I’ve been kind of distant from God. I’m not sure why. I do
know, though that the distance between Him and I right now is because of me.
It’s my fault. He didn’t go anywhere. I did. I’m not sure where I went, but I
don’t like it here. It’s lonely and it’s confusing and I’m working on getting
closer to Him again. The thing with our amazing God though, is that He’ll
always call you back when you stray. One thing I didn’t stop doing when I came
to the United States of America, is listening to Christian music. Although I
was feeling distant from God, every time I listened to a Christian song, I
could feel Him calling me. He told me that He was still right there, waiting
for me.
It goes back to the roots. We’re human beings. We will
always stray from the path that God wants us to take, but when we’re rooted in
Christ, we’ll always find our way back. The more we’re rooted, the less likely
we are to stray too far from the path. Think of it this way, we’re walking the
“Golden Path” with Christ. Every time we stray, he stops walking and he waits. No
matter how far we stray, our Lord Jesus Christ will always be there waiting.
How far you stray, depends on how deep your roots are.
Take time to read Luke
8:4-15, “The Parable of the Sower”.
Taking from the analogy used in this parable, we are all
seeds. We can either fall on the wayside, the rock, the thorns or on the good
ground. When a seed falls on good ground, what happens? In the right
conditions, it begins to germinate and develop and grow roots and the plant
starts to come out.
“But the ones that
fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and
good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.”
-Luke 8:15
When we gave our lives to Christ, we became a seed. When we
started to read the word and to guard it in our hearts, we became the seed that
fell on good ground. The next step is to continue to read the word of God – not
only do we have to read His Word, we have to continue to lock it in our hearts.
We also have to pray so that we can grow roots. The more you seek God and seek
to do His will, the deeper your roots will become. Think about yourself as a
tree. When a storm comes and the strong winds blow, what happens to trees with
shallow roots? They fall over. When the Devil tries to come and make you stray
from the Golden Path and you are not
rooted in Christ, what will happen? He will succeed.
Reading your Bible daily, meditating on God’s word,
listening to Christian music, going to church, serving in the ministry, all
these things will help to keep you deeply rooted. A tree with deeper roots is
harder to blow over than a tree with shallow roots.
God truly loves you.
With love,
Mandile
